More news to give

Once again, my apologies for the lack of updates. I had planned to do more this summer, but time constraints and many administrative matters went in the way. I’m currently in the middle of a move, which will involve hiccups in web connection availability, and I’m not sure of when exactly I’ll be able to settle down again in a proper blogging cycle. In a couple weeks, probably, if everything goes well. I’ll be attending college classes in English for one year or two, if I can; even if this takes me time, I do hope that it’ll also allow me to improve my blog posts, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.

On a side note, I’ve started redoing my list of artists’ sites to visit, and I’ll make sure to have, once again, many of these to present here on Vectorized. Not that finding vector artists takes much time, but finding good vector artists, that’s another matter, right?

In any case, please keep tuned; there’ll be more to this place in days/weeks to come. Including a new theme, since the default one really isn’t my cup of tea, nor very appropriate to the theme of this blog.

Changes, Update, and Lack of Time

As you can see, there haven’t been updates in quite some time, and for this I need to apologize… A blogging break was in order, and faithful to the black hole that is considered my memory, I let time fly, eprsuaded that “it’s only a couple weeks I haven’t posted, it’s alright”. I had also lost my list of already written posts/links to present here in a computer crash, and this had left me quite disheartened, I admit.

Regarding the template: I had to deactivate it temporarily. I have no idea of what happened, one day it was working, the next day it was spitting database errors. In the meantime, and as much as I don’t like the default WordPress theme, it’s better than a blog that doesn’t work, isn’t it!

Sylvain Fustier

Some interesting works in the portfolio of Sylvain Fustier. The site is all in French, so to go straight to the point, click Illustrations, then Vectorial, and you’ll be in (alright, it’s close enough to the English word to not be that confusing). His style may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is funny and cartoonish enough, and his Flash animations are also worth being checked.

Eloise Ponti

A French graphic-designer who’s spent all of her childhood in Italy before going back to France to study arts, here comes Eloise Ponti, with a portfolio full of nice vector ilustrations, some of them even involving bits of photography (although some can be hard to tell if giving them a quick glance only). Eloise currently operates as a freelance artist, and also works in the domains of web-design and publishing.

Michka

Here’s a nice set of illustrations that are the work of a graphic-designer going by the pen name of Michka (like the little bear in the Russian children’s story). His speciality lies with Illustrator, Flash and Photoshop; independant since March 2003, Michka also does web-design and animation works. The style in which the illustrations are done is a simple and colorful one, that works well for magazines.

Animation: Pinpin Le Lapin

Here’s something light-hearted and fun for this Saturday evening: Pinipin le lapin, a short movie done in Flash (in fact, there are several episodes, but this one is available on the website for viewing). Unfortunately for those who don’t speak my language, it’s all in French, and some of the puns and other funny parts will therefore be lost; the rest, a.k.a. the numerous references to sentai and other anime series, can be understood all the same. It’s pretty specific, and not always that subtel, but can nonetheless be enjoyable. As a sidenote, this short movie was even broadcast on a French TV sat channel, sometime in 2004.

Update on Cristiano Siqueira’s website

Earlier on this month, I had written a post about Cristiano Siqueira. At the time, Cris’ website was stll in the works, and his illustrations could only be seen on deviantART. It can thus be of interest to know that his site is now updated, complete with downloadable wall papers, and that it is a nice webite to look at, on top of this.

Nicolas Warnier

Another French freelance graphic-designer (there are many in my country, I assure you), and one that mixes the use of Illustrator and Photoshop in a very nice way to create, among other things, flyers, posters and logos. Jean-Christophe Recchia

The spotlight today is on Jean-Christophe Recchia, a French illustrator who has worked for Chesterfield advertisement campaigns, as well as realized illustrations for the yearly Publicis and Somfy reports. On his website, you can find some of these professional works, but also a few personal ones, in a colorful and simple style that functions quite well.

Arthur Mount

For anyone who likes semi-realistic vector drawing, Arthur Mount, steadily holding a BFA in Drawing from the Caifornia Colege of the Arts (Oakland), is definitely a name to check. His works include lots of characters, among them known ones (see on the left part of an illustration on the theme of the movie Chicago), in a style that makes them easy to recognize, while not being overtly ‘too’ realistic, ‘too’ detailed. They have also appeared in many publications around the world, including the USA, Canada, Japan and France.
